Hawaiian Religion in the Correctional Facilities
Hawaiian Spirituality and cultural practice have been active with in the correctional facilities for several decades and more so since the contemporary resurgence of the Hawaiian culture. Unfortunately, Hawaiian religion has not been sincerely recognized by the Department of Public Safety as compared to other religions practiced with in the correctional facilities.
The goal of the Hawaiian Church of Hawaii Nei has been to provide the paahao with the necessary sacred items, spiritual support and religious venue for Hawaiian Spiritualist and Cultural Practioners. In order to support the paahao the Hawaiian Church of Hawaii Nei seeks to become a recognized vendor for the Department of Public Safety. As a vendor for the DPS, Paahao will be able to request sacred items from us so that they may posses these items in their cell like other religious items are allowed for other inmates.
Our Mission - Strengthening and Empowering Hawaiian Spirituality Through Traditional Ceremonies, Rituals and Protocols would be accomplished more easily when the proper materials, necessary sacred items and access to perform them are met with Aloha and understanding.
The idea, as all of this is being newly created, is to have donors donate sacred items as they are requested from the paahao, We hope to post items requested, so a donor will be able to see what is needed. Any and All information regarding paahao will be strictly confidential unless authorized by the Department of Public Safety and also not to enable favoritism.
